An Open Letter to CAN and Khalti: A Heartbreaking Experience for a Devoted Nepal Cricket Fan

Dear Cricket Association of Nepal-CAN and Khalti App,

I am writing this open letter with utmost disappointment for not being able to witness the historical and much hyped inaugural game of the Nepal Premier League. I had purchased 10 tickets in Siddhartha Bank Zone within few hours of opening the sale in Khalti App (VIP tickets were sold out in the first hour). None of us were able to use any of these tickets to enter the TU Cricket ground. To our disbelief, when we reached the ground, we were first told to "redeem" the QR tickets to paper tickets. There was no prior notice that we had to do that. We lost significant time walking to ticket counter and staying in queue to get paper tickets. What's the point of QR ticket if we need to get paper ticket in this digital age?

By the time, we reached back to gate we were told by the security and gate agents that they were ordered by the "higher authority" to hold the spectators in the gate. Game had already started by then. VIP ticket holders were still allowed in. As expected, things got chaos quickly and people were running everywhere, hoping they will be allowed to enter at least from somewhere. Shortly after, we were told there would be no one allowed to enter as the stadium has reached its capacity. How on earth is it possible? Who is to blame?

Poor security personnel and gate agents were fearing for their life to control the crowd. All they told us was we can't let you in and we should go to ticket counter to get refund. Really? We all came from all parts of country, sacrificng so much time and other personal matters, only to be told "don't worry, you will get refund!" That's what we ardent fans of Nepal cricket are worth to the "higher authority" of Nepal cricket?

After exhausting all our attempts to enter the stadium, and since first inning had already completed by then, I along with my friends went to ticket counters as directed to get refund. Guess what? There was nobody in the ticket counter. Not a soul!

I later found that CAN had issued an statement saying we have to send and email and follow the "steps" to get the refund.

It is an understatement to say that this was very disappointing and disheartening expierence for me and hundreds of other who were not able to enter the stadium despite having the tickets in hand. My biggest heartache is that I have watched Nepal's cricket all around the world, but, today, I was not able to watch the game in my own home country...this will serve as bitter memory for a long time!

Finally, all I want to say is pleaseeee do better for the next and upcoming matches of Nepal Premier league. As for me, this was my only chance to be part of Nepal Premier League and I lost it (as I am flying back to states on Monday morning)!

-an ardent Nepal cricket supporter
